Actemra

Manufacturer website:

https://www.actemra.com/

Condition:

  • Giant Cell Arteritis
  • Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
  • Systemic Sclerosis With Early Interstitial Lung Disease

Actemra is a type of prescription medicine that is typically given to adults who have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is only given after you have already tried at least one other disease modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD). If the DMARD didn’t work for you, you can talk to your doctor about whether Actemra could be used as an alternative treatment.

This medication is also used for people who have giant cell arteritis (GCA), active polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (PJIA), active systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA), or systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD). If the patient suffers from PJIA or SJIA, they must be at least 2 years old to take the drug. When used for SSc-ILD, Actemra can help to slow down the progression of decline in your lung function.

Actemra works by changing how your immune system functions. Because of this, you are more likely to get an infection or have a serious infection. You should always tell your medical provider about any infections before you start taking Actemra.

Aldurazyme

Manufacturer website:

https://www.aldurazyme.com/patients

Condition:

  • Mucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I)

Aldurazyme is designed to treat mucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I). It can treat adults and children who have the Hurler and Hurler-Scheie forms of the disease. In addition, Aldurazyme can also treat people who have moderate or severe cases of the Scheie form of the disease.

Depending on your medical history and other factors, you may be pretreated with antihistamines, antipyretics, or both. The entire treatment will take about three to four hours to complete. Then, you will repeat your infusion each week.

Antihistamines and antipyretics are given because there is a potential for infusion reactions. If you do have a reaction, you should alert the medical staff right away. They may stop the treatment or give you medication to alleviate your symptoms.

Infusion reactions were found in almost a third of patients in clinical trials. In general, the most common infusion reactions were raised body temperature, rashes, headaches, and flushing.

Aralast NP

Aralast NP can boost the level of Alpha1 protein in your lungs and blood. Normally, the treatment is given once a week to help your body replace this key protein. It takes a doctor or nurse just 15 minutes to give this medication intravenously.

Normally, the body creates Alpha1 protein to protect your lungs. It circulates throughout your bloodstream and prevents inflammation after you inhale irritants or develop an infection. When someone has low or absent levels of this important protein, it can lead to lung damage and emphysema.

Often, an Alpha1 deficiency is genetic. A genetic mutation can make it impossible for your body to develop adequate levels of this protein. If you don’t have enough of this protein, you will likely develop lung damage between the ages of 20 and 50 years old.

Roughly one out of every 3,000 to 5,000 people suffer from Alpha1 protein deficiency. With the right medication, it is possible to manage this disease and prevent lung complications.

Benlysta

Manufacturer website:

https://www.benlysta.com/

Condition:

Benlysta was the first Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medication for lupus and lupus nephritis. It can be given subcutaneously or intravenously (IV) if you suffer from active lupus nephritis or lupus. The Benlysta IV version is approved for children 5 and up who have lupus.

Once someone is taking this infusion, it can significantly decrease their lupus activity. Many patients notice improvements in the function of their immune system and muscles. It can also help your skin, joints, and mouth.

This biology therapy isn’t a steroid, and you can take it with other lupus medications. It works by focusing on the underlying cause of the disease. Benlysta can reduce your disease activity and flare-ups.

Plus, this medication can decrease your steroid doses by 25 percent. Patients are typically given Benlysta every two weeks for the first three infusions. After that, the one-hour infusions are given every four weeks.

Bivigam

Bivigam is unique because it helps people who have primary humoral immunodeficiency (PI) disorders. Most people fight off diseases using their immune system. When someone’s immune system lacks the right defenses for fighting off diseases, they are said to have a PI disorder.

This medication consists of human immune globulin. When you are given Bivigam, your infusion nurse or physician will decide how fast to give the infusion to you based on your comfort and body weight. During the initial infusion, your response will be closely monitored.

If your body handles the infusion dose well, then the infusion rate will be increased after 10 minutes have passed. Then, the infusion speed can be increased every 20 minutes. You will generally have to receive another infusion every three to four weeks.

Bivigam is made by collecting and processing human plasma. The immune globulin is removed from plasma using a centrifuge. Afterward, it goes through extensive quality and safety controls before it is turned into an infusion.

Briumvi

Manufacturer website:

https://briumvi.com/

Condition:

Briumvi is a prescription medication used to treat adults with relapsing forms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It works by targeting specific immune cells that are believed to play a role in the progression of MS, helping to slow down the frequency of relapses and manage symptoms more effectively. For those dealing with the unpredictable nature of MS, Briumvi offers a therapeutic option aimed at reducing disease activity.

This medication is designed for people who experience relapsing episodes, including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease. By specifically targeting the immune system, Briumvi helps decrease the immune response that damages nerve fibers, which may result in improved function and quality of life.

Because Briumvi influences immune activity, patients may have a higher risk of infections. It’s important to notify your healthcare provider about any signs of infection or recent vaccinations before beginning treatment. Regular monitoring while on Briumvi can also help ensure safe and effective use.

Cinryze

Manufacturer website:

https://www.cinryze.com/

Condition:

  • Hereditary Angioedema

Cinryze is used to treat hereditary angioedema (HAE) in children, which can prevent attacks from happening later in life. Starting as early as the age of 6, children can take this medication to decrease the severity and frequency of HAE attacks.

Released in 2008, Cinryze is known as the first C1 esterase inhibitor (C1-INH). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this drug for treating children, adults, and teenagers for HAW. Pediatric patients can take this drug to limit the amount of acute treatment they need to take.

Normally, people naturally produce C1-INH protein in their bodies. With HAE, people don’t have enough of this key protein. As a result, the body releases plasma kallikrein and bradykinin.

These proteins can cause your small blood vessels to release fluid in areas of your body. You end up suffering from pain and swelling. With Cinryze, you can take the drug intravenously every three to four days to prevent future attacks.

Cosentyx

Manufacturer website:

https://www.cosentyxhcp.com/

Condition:

Cosentyx is a prescription medication used to treat several inflammatory conditions, including plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. By targeting a specific protein involved in the body’s immune response, Cosentyx helps reduce inflammation, relieving painful symptoms and improving skin clarity for patients with plaque psoriasis. It’s a valuable option for adults and children with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, helping manage flares and maintain skin health.

For those with psoriatic arthritis and juvenile psoriatic arthritis, Cosentyx works to reduce joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, making daily movement easier and more comfortable. It’s also approved for ankylosing spondylitis, where it can help relieve back pain and improve flexibility by reducing inflammation in the spine.

Cosentyx is also indicated for hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic skin condition that causes painful lumps under the skin. For patients dealing with this challenging condition, Cosentyx offers a targeted treatment that can help reduce the size and number of lumps and manage the inflammation associated with flare-ups.

Since Cosentyx modifies the immune response, it may increase the risk of infection. It’s important to discuss any current or recent infections with your healthcare provider before starting Cosentyx, as well as to have regular health check-ups to monitor for potential side effects during treatment.

Elaprase

Manufacturer website:

https://www.elaprase.com/

Condition:

  • Hunter Syndrome

Elaprase is typically given to patients who have Hunter syndrome. In patients 5 years old or older, this prescription medication has been found to boost their walking ability. It was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006.

This prescription medication is based on an enzyme that is known to break down glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Since these compounds can cause the symptoms of Hunter syndrome, Elaprase can effectively improve the signs and symptoms of the disease. For instance, it can prevent GAGs from building up in the liver and spleen.

Elaprase is considered an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). It replaces iduronate-2-sulfate, which is missing in people who have Hunter syndrome. To date, it is the only FDA-approved ERT for this illness.

Your dosage will be determined by your weight. Each week, you will be given another dose of Elaprase. Typically, the infusion will take about three hours to complete.

Entyvio

Manufacturer website:

https://www.entyvio.com/

Condition:

  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis

Entyvio is designed to treat moderately to severely active Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s disease. Initially, you will be given an intravenous (IV) infusion for 30 minutes at zero, two, and six weeks. Afterward, you will be given your infusion every eight weeks.

If you have tried taking other medications unsuccessfully before, then Entyvio may be for you. People may also want to try Entyvio if they have been using steroids to handle flare-ups or can’t tolerate other medications.

With a normal immune response, your white blood cells are programmed to go throughout your body to protect you from diseases. If you have Crohn’s disease or Ucerative Colitis, some of these white blood cells are going into your gastrointestinal tract (GI) and causing inflammation. This process is what causes the symptoms of your illness.

When you take Entyvio, you can prevent your body from making too many white blood cells. As a result, Entyvio can control the symptoms of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Evkeeza

Manufacturer website:

https://www.evkeeza.com/s/

Condition:

Evkeeza can help patients 12 and older with their high cholesterol. This medication is designed to help if you suffer from Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH).

In about 1 out of 250,000 people, HoFH occurs and prevents the body from clearing out bad cholesterol. Because of this, your cholesterol may be up to four times higher than normal. Unfortunately, many sufferers aren’t diagnosed until later in life.

HoFH is a serious disease that is inherited from your parents that dramatically limits the body’s ability to remove bad cholesterol (LDL-C), which causes extremely high levels of bad cholesterol to remain in the body. EVKEEZA uses a unique pathway by blocking a specific protein, angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3), which stops the body from removing bad cholesterol.

You should take Evkeeza with other medications to lower your cholesterol. In addition, you should continue following the heart-healthy or low-fat diet your doctor has prescribed. Because this medication doesn’t affect your liver, you don’t need extra blood tests to monitor your liver health during treatment.

When you get your infusion, the entire process will take about 60 minutes to complete. You will generally take this medication every four weeks. After each appointment, you can schedule your next infusion treatment with your health provider or the infusion center.

Exondys 51

Manufacturer website:

https://www.exondys51.com/

Condition:

  • Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Known as the first treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Exondys 51 is for people who have a confirmed mutation in their dystrophin gene. By taking Exondys 51, you may be able to help your body make a shorter version of the dystrophin protein.

While the infusion typically takes just 35 to 60 minutes to complete, preparation can take a little longer. If you experience any side effects, you may have to temporarily stop the medication or take it at a slower pace. This infusion is typically administered once a week.

When someone’s body doesn’t make dystrophin properly, muscle cells weaken and become damaged. Exondys 51 can alleviate this problem through exon-skipping technology. Basically, Exondys 51 helps your body skip an exon in the dystrophin gene, so you can make a shorter form of the dystrophin protein.

The most common side effects were problems with balance, confusion, and vomiting. If you experience any side effects during the infusion, you should bring them up with your medical provider right away.

Allergic reactions, including wheezing, chest pain, cough, rapid heart rate, and hives have occurred in patients who were treated with EXONDYS 51. Seek immediate medical care if signs and symptoms of allergic reactions occur.

Fabrazyme

Manufacturer website:

https://www.fabrazyme.com/

Condition:

  • Fabry Disease

As a kind of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), Fabrazyme is made to replace the enzyme that is missing in Fabry disease. By getting this infusion, you can prevent a fatty substance known as GL-3 from building up in the future. Normally, GL-3 build-up can cause organ damage after it develops in your organs.

In research studies, five months of Fabrazyme treatment helped 69 percent of patients to have nearly no GL-3 inclusions in their kidneys. 72 percent of patients achieved this level in their heart, and 100 percent reached almost no Gl-3 inclusions in their skin

Currently, Fabrazyme can be taken by patients who are 2 years old or older. Your first infusions will always take place at a doctor’s office or an infusion center.

During the infusion, some people may develop side effects. If you have previously had a reaction to other infusions, your doctor may recommend anti-fever or antihistamine medications prior to taking Fabrazyme.

Gammagard

Gammagard is based on human immune globulin. It is designed for people who suffer from primary immunodeficiency (PI). Patients have been successfully using this medication for more than 15 years.

If you are age 2 or older, you could be a candidate for this infusion. This medication can be administered subcutaneously or intravenously depending on your personal needs. Your doctor can help you figure out which method is right for you.

This medication is made from immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. Because of this, the infusion can protect you from getting an infection. Basically, Gammagard uses antibodies from healthy people to replace the antibodies missing in someone who has PI.

As an intravenous (IV) medication, Gammagard is administered every three to four weeks. Because some people experience side effects or severe allergic reactions, it is important to alert your infusion provider to any symptoms you experience during your infusion. If you have immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficiency or previous allergic reactions to blood products or immune globulin, you shouldn’t take this medication.

Gamunex-C

Manufacturer website:

https://www.gamunex-c.com/en/cidp

Condition:

Gamunex-C is a prescription medication used to treat chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and primary immunodeficiency disease (PIDD). It provides patients with essential antibodies to support the immune system, which is particularly helpful for those with PIDD, where the body lacks the necessary defenses against infections. For individuals with PIDD, Gamunex-C helps reduce the frequency and severity of infections, supporting a more active and healthier lifestyle.

In patients with CIDP, Gamunex-C works to manage the autoimmune activity that damages nerve fibers, which may help to restore muscle strength, improve mobility, and reduce symptoms like numbness or tingling in the limbs. Regular treatments with Gamunex-C can help slow the progression of CIDP and maintain nerve function over time.

Gamunex-C is administered either intravenously or subcutaneously, offering flexibility depending on individual needs. Since it influences immune function, patients should discuss any current or recent infections with their healthcare provider before starting treatment. Regular monitoring can help ensure safe and effective use of Gamunex-C as part of a comprehensive care plan.

Glassia

Glassia is the first drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating emphysema. If your emphysema is caused by severe Alpha1‑antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency, you may be a candidate for this infusion. It is only intended for people who have emphysema caused by AAT deficiency, so it won’t work if your emphysema is due to other problems.

When someone doesn’t have enough functional AAT, it can lead to lung damage later on in life. In most cases, this occurs between the ages of 20 and 50. Unfortunately, around 1 out of 3,000 to 5,000 Americans suffer from AAT deficiency.

At the maximum infusion rate, your infusion will take about 15 minutes to complete. Because it is a chronic maintenance therapy, Glassia is given on a weekly basis to boost the levels of AAT in your lungs and bloodstream.

Glassia can sometimes cause severe allergic reactions in patients. If this occurs, you should notify your infusion provider right away.

HyQvia

Manufacturer website:

https://www.hyqvia.com/

Condition:

HyQvia is intended for adults who suffer from primary immunodeficiency. It is made out of recombinant human hyaluronidase and immune globulin (Ig). This medication is proven to help your body fight off infections. HYQVIA is a liquid medicine that is given under the skin (subcutaneously) to treat primary immunodeficiency (PI) in adults.

Normally, this infusion is given every three to four weeks. Because it uses a ramp-up schedule, you will have more infusions initially as your body gets used to the medication. Most people have infusions at one, two, four, and seven weeks before switching to a monthly dose.

Hyaluronidase is the reason why you can get infusions on a monthly basis. It is found naturally in your body and helps to open up your skin. This allows more Ig to reach your bloodstream, which means you can have just one infusion a month.

After initially getting hyaluronidase during your treatment, the second part of your infusion will consist of Ig. Thanks to Ig, your body will get a bunch of antibodies for fighting off potential infections.

IVIG (e.g. Gamunex-C)

Condition:

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is used by patients who have an antibody deficiency. After healthy donors provide plasma, a pool of antibodies is transformed into IVIG. Also known as immunoglobulins, these antibodies are a normal part of healthy immune systems and are important for fighting off infections.

Plasma-based immunoglobulin products have been used since 1952 for primary immune deficiency. Today, IVIG products are purified and normally have more than 95% IgG. While immunoglobulin was originally injected into patients, it can now be given as an infusion.

Like many medications, IVIG can cause some side effects. This is especially true if you are trying IVIG for the first time, or you haven’t used IVIG for at least eight weeks.

IVIG is typically prescribed to make your immune system stronger. It can also be used to boost platelet levels if you have chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Additionally, IVIG can help people who have chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).

Kanuma

Manufacturer website:

https://kanuma.com/

Condition:

  • Lysosomal Acid Lipase Deficiency (LALD)

If you suffer from lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LALD), Kanuma may be able to help you manage your disease. This genetic condition is a progressive disease that eventually leads to multiorgan damage. It can affect infant, pediatric, and adult patients.

Kanuma infusions are made out of hydrolytic lysosomal cholesteryl ester and triacylglycerol-specific enzymes. Pediatric and adult patients will get their infusion once every other week.

You can expect the infusion to take two hours to complete. Preparing for the infusion and cleaning up afterward can take longer. To make the time go faster, you can bring along a book, movie, or mobile device to help you pass the time.

If you have a hypersensitivity reaction to the infusion, you should tell the infusion provider. People who have an allergy to eggs and egg products should carefully discuss the risks and benefits of this treatment with their doctor before they receive their first infusion.

In pediatric and adult patients treated with KANUMA, the most common side effects are headache, fever, sore throat, swelling of the nose and throat, weakness, constipation, and nausea.

Keytruda

Manufacturer website:

https://www.keytruda.com/

Condition:

Keytruda (pembrolizumab) is an immunotherapy treatment widely used for several advanced cancers. Its most common indications include non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), melanoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and cervical cancer. Keytruda is also effective for cancers with specific genetic markers, such as microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) or mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) tumors, which can include certain endometrial and colorectal cancers.

Keytruda works by inhibiting the PD-1 protein on immune cells, which in turn enhances the immune system’s ability to detect and destroy cancer cells. This targeted immune response provides patients with advanced cancers a treatment option that may slow disease progression, reduce tumor size, and potentially extend survival. Keytruda can be administered alone or in combination with chemotherapy, depending on the cancer type and individual patient needs.

Krystexxa

Manufacturer website:

https://www.krystexxa.com/

Condition:

Krystexxa is intended for people who suffer from chronic gout. If you experience two or more flare-ups each year, it could be a sign your current medication isn’t decreasing your uric acid levels enough. Because of this, your body may be suffering from the damage of uncontrolled gout.

For more than 10 years, Krystexxa has helped patients manage chronic gout. Currently, it is the only medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating gout that isn’t controlled by other medications. In many cases, patients can take a single intravenous (IV) treatment every other week for six months to get their gout under control.

After a single treatment, Krystexxa can start lowering your uric acid levels. In healthy adults, the kidneys remove uric acid from the blood. When someone has out-of-control gout, their body needs extra help getting rid of uric acid.

Krystexxa gives your body an enzyme it needs for transforming uric acid into allantoin. Once this process occurs, uric acid can leave your body through your urine. As a result, you can manage your gout and have fewer flares.

LEQEMBI

Manufacturer website:

https://www.leqembi.com/

Condition:

  • Early-onset Alzheimer's disease/dementia

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) supporting the traditional approval of LEQEMBI® (lecanemab-irmb), making LEQEMBI the first and only approved treatment shown to reduce the rate of disease progression and to slow cognitive and functional decline in adults with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). LEQEMBI is for people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, which are known as:

  • Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer’s disease. This is when symptoms like forgetfulness and confusion are very mild and may not get in the way of daily life.
  • Mild Alzheimer’s dementia This is when symptoms like trouble keeping track of bills and difficulty with familiar tasks start to get in the way of daily life

LEQEMBi works by targeting harmful amyloid proteins and reducing existing amyloid brain plaque, helping to slow the progression of early Alzheimer’s disease and enabling patients to remember, solve problems, and maintain a better quality of life for longer. Leqembi can cause serious side effects, and it is important to work with your healthcare provider and infusion provider to ensure effective and safe treatment administration.

Naglazyme

Manufacturer website:

https://www.naglazyme.com/

Condition:

  • Mucopolysaccharidosis VI (MPS VI)

If you suffer from mucopolysaccharidosis VI (MPS VI), Naglazyme may be able to help your symptoms. Also called Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, this disease is inherited and can lead to valvular symptoms, impaired vision, spinal cord compression, carpal tunnel syndrome, recurrent sinusitis, and other symptoms. Thankfully, Naglazyme can help you manage your illness.

As the first enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) for MPS VI, Naglazyme helps to replace the enzyme your body needs to process glycosaminoglycan (GAG). In clinical studies, taking Naglazyme was shown to help patients improve their endurance.

If MPS VI isn’t treated, it can cause difficulty breathing, decreased endurance, and other physical problems. Naglazyme helps by giving you the enzyme your body isn’t making. By doing this, the infusion can help you decrease the buildup of GAGs.

You can expect the Naglazyme infusion to take about four hours to complete. Because MPS VI is a lifetime disorder, you will need to continue your treatments for the rest of your life.

Nexviazyme

Manufacturer website:

https://www.nexviazyme.com/

Condition:

  • Late-onset Pompe Disease (LOPD)

Nexviazyme is a prescription medication specifically designed to treat late-onset Pompe disease (LOPD), a rare genetic disorder that impacts muscle function due to enzyme deficiency. In LOPD, the body lacks the enzyme needed to break down glycogen, leading to muscle weakness and respiratory issues. Nexviazyme works by supplementing this missing enzyme, helping to reduce glycogen buildup and preserve muscle strength and respiratory function.

For patients with LOPD, Nexviazyme offers a targeted approach to managing the disease. Regular treatment can help improve mobility and respiratory health, slowing the progression of muscle weakness associated with Pompe disease. This treatment allows patients to manage their symptoms more effectively and supports an improved quality of life.

Administered through infusion, Nexviazyme is closely monitored by healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective use. Patients should discuss their full medical history with their provider, including any infections or recent health changes, to make the most of their Nexviazyme treatment plan.

Nulojix

Manufacturer website:

https://www.nulojixhcp.bmscustomerconnect.com/

Condition:

  • Organ Rejection Prevention

Anti-rejection medicines are an integral part of your post-transplant treatment. With Nulojix, you can prevent your body from rejecting an organ transplant. This intravenous (IV) infusion can be used in combination with corticosteroids and other medications.

Nulojix is intended for people who are 18 years old or older. It isn’t designed for anyone who has previously been exposed to the Epstein-Barr virus. In addition, you should talk to your doctor if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

Transplant rejection occurs following organ transplants because your immune system recognizes the new organ is foreign to your body. Nulojix, corticosteroids, and other medications can be used to suppress your immune system and prevent organ rejection.

Like many medications, Nulojix carries some potential risks. Your doctor will give you blood and urine tests to see if it is negatively affecting your body. In general, you can expect each infusion to take about 30 minutes to complete.

Ocrevus (Loading Dose & Maintenance Dose)

Manufacturer website:

https://www.ocrevus.com/

Condition:

If you suffer from primary progressive or relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS), Ocrevus may be able to help. This treatment has proven to be effective at decreasing disability progression and reducing the incidence of relapses. It can also improve brain lesions.

During your initial year, the first treatment is divided into two doses. Then, you will have a follow-up treatment six months later. Afterward, you will only have two treatments per year.

MS happens because your immune system begins attacking myelin, which is a material that surrounds nerves in your brain. B cells are important for MS development because they are responsible for activating your immune system. Currently, scientists believe Ocrevus works by impacting these B cells.

You should plan on spending about four to six hours at the treatment center. The infusion takes just two hours to complete, but additional preparations can cause the entire procedure to take longer. Following your treatment, you should watch for infusion reactions for up to 24 hours afterward.

Ocrevus Zunovo

By targeting specific pathways in the immune system, Omvoh helps reduce inflammation in the colon, offering relief from symptoms such as abdominal pain, urgent bowel movements, and bleeding.

For those managing ulcerative colitis, Omvoh can be a valuable option when other treatments haven’t provided adequate results. It works by calming the overactive immune response that leads to inflammation, helping patients achieve and maintain remission. With Omvoh, many individuals experience improvements in both physical comfort and overall quality of life.

Administered under the guidance of a healthcare provider, Omvoh is given as an infusion, allowing for close monitoring of its effectiveness and any potential side effects. Before starting Omvoh, patients should discuss their health history and any recent infections with their doctor to ensure the best possible treatment experience.

Onpattro

Onpattro is approved for the treatment of hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis (hATTR amyloidosis). It can also improve hATTR-related polyneuropathy.

hATTR amyloidosis affects around 50,000 people globally. It typically runs in families, so a child has a 50% chance of developing this disease if one of their parents has it. Because this rare condition damages the nerves, it can cause a diverse range of symptoms, like diarrhea, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, difficulty walking, burning pain, sexual dysfunction, nausea, and weakness.

Onpattro can reduce the amount of TTR protein produced within the liver. Normally, hATTR amyloidosis involves a genetic variant in the TTR gene, which causes TTR protein to make amyloid deposits. By reducing TTR protein, Onpattro can decrease amyloid deposits and symptoms of hAATR amyloidosis.

About an hour before you take Onpattro, your infusion provider will give you medications to prevent infusion-related reactions from happening. Once your infusion begins, it should take about 80 minutes to complete.

Orencia

Manufacturer website:

https://www.orencia.com/

Condition:

Orencia is intended for people who suffer from mild to moderate rheumatoid arthritis (RA). By taking Orencia, you may be able to prevent RA from causing additional damage to your joints and bones. In addition, taking this drug may make it easier to carry out your day-to-day activities.

Talk to your doctor about the other RA medications you are on before you take Orencia. In many cases, you can continue taking other RA drugs while you are on Orencia. Orencia can also be taken if you suffer from psoriatic arthritis or polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

When you have RA, your immune system mistakenly believes your joints are under attack. Because of this, the immune system will send signals to launch a counterattack. Orencia works by disrupting these signals.

A typical dose of Orencia takes 30 minutes to complete. The amount of time you’ll spend at the infusion center will be longer because the infusion has to be prepared. Afterward, you will return every month for another infusion.

Privigen

Privigen may be prescribed as a treatment for chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), primary immunodeficiency, or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). This intravenous immunoglobulin G (IVIg) therapy is made out of antibodies. These essential antibodies can help your body fight off diseases.

When you suffer from PI, your body can’t fight off germs properly. Infections are common because your immune system isn’t working right. Privigen works by raising your IgG levels, so your body can fight off recurring infections and other complications.

Your infusion will take place at an infusion center or hospital. Once the intravenous (IV) treatment begins, it will take about two hours to complete. For PI, you will receive your infusion treatments every three to four weeks.

Immunoglobulin products, like Privigen, carry blood-clotting risks. Kidney issues and kidney failure can happen in people who are predisposed to these problems. If you are at risk for blood-clotting issues or kidney disorders, talk to your doctors about the risks and benefits of taking Privigen before you start the treatment process.

Prolastin-C

If you are struggling to live with alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, Prolastin-C may be able to help. Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency is also known as genetic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) because it can be passed down through your family. When someone suffers from this illness, their body is unable to make a protein that protects the lungs from infections.

About 100,000 people suffer from this illness, but the majority of sufferers don’t realize they have it. If you have this disease, you may develop wheezing, shortness of breath, chronic cough, and low exercise tolerance.

Prolastin-C can help because it is a concentrated version of protein alpha1 antitrypsin, so it can raise your blood levels quickly. It is made out of screened human plasma.

Because there is no cure for alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency, you will have to receive this infusion every week for the rest of your life. At the recommended infusion rate, each infusion will take about 15 minutes to complete.

Rituxan

Manufacturer website:

https://www.rituxan.com/

Condition:

  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
  • Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (GPA) (Wegener’s Granulomatosis)
  • Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA)
  • Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL)
  • Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV)
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rituxan is a medication you can take for a number of different conditions. Adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can take it when a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antagonist hasn’t been effective. Meanwhile, adults who have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) or chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) can take it by itself or in conjunction with other chemotherapy medicines.

This medication can be used if you are age 2 or older and suffer from microscopic polyangiitis (MPA). It is also used in adults who have granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA). The dosage and infusion schedule are based on the disease you are trying to treat.

Rituxan is made of a cytolytic antibody. For RA, you will space two doses, two weeks apart. Then, you generally wait 24 weeks before repeating those doses.

For GPA and MPA, you would get your infusion each week for four weeks. Once your disease is under control, your follow-up infusion will be two infusions, two weeks apart. Afterward, you will repeat the follow-up schedule six months later.

Rystiggo

Manufacturer website:

https://www.rystiggo.com/

Condition:

  • Myasthenia Gravis (gMG)

Rystiggo is a prescription medication used to treat adults with generalized Myasthenia Gravis (gMG), a chronic autoimmune disorder that disrupts communication between nerves and muscles, leading to muscle weakness and fatigue. Rystiggo targets specific antibodies in the immune system that contribute to these symptoms, helping to reduce the severity and frequency of muscle weakness episodes.

For patients managing generalized Myasthenia Gravis, Rystiggo offers a targeted approach to easing symptoms, potentially allowing for greater muscle control and improved daily functioning. By modulating the immune response, Rystiggo aims to help patients regain strength and enhance their quality of life.

Saphnelo

If you suffer from lupus, Saphenlo may be able to help. Lupus affects many different parts of your body, and Saphnelo can work in these areas. In addition, this drug is effective with both parts of your immune system.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder, which is a disorder where your body’s immune system attacks your organs and tissues. Because different areas can be attacked, lupus sufferers can experience a variety of different symptoms.

When you are born, your body’s immune system was made with an innate defense system as well as abilities you developed over time. With lupus, both aspects of your immune system stop working properly. Higher levels of type 1 interferon (IFN-1) can cause your immune cells to create inflammation as they track your organs.

Taking Saphnelo can help you reduce the amount of steroids you use, flare-ups, and your disease activity. It takes about 30 minutes to complete a full dose of Saphnelo. After you take your first appointment, you will receive follow-up infusions every four weeks.

Simponi ARIA

Manufacturer website:

https://www.simponiaria.com/

Condition:

Simponi Aria can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pJIA). While it is used for adults who have RA and ankylosing spondylitis, Simponi Aria can treat anyone over the age of 2 if they have psoriatic arthritis or pJIA.

This biologic treatment is given as an intravenous (IV) infusion. Each infusion takes about 30 minutes to complete. After your initial infusion, you will get a follow-up infusion four weeks later.

Following your initial two infusions, your future infusions will be given every eight weeks. This means you may only need six infusions in a year.

Because Simponi Aria can reduce your body’s ability to fight off infections, you are more likely to experience serious bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Other serious side effects and allergic reactions may also happen. It is important to talk about any side effects you experience with your doctor or infusion provider.

Skyrizi

Manufacturer website:

https://www.skyrizi.com/

Condition:

Skyrizi can be taken as an injection for plaque psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, and psoriatic arthritis. For Crohn’s disease, Skyrizi is given as an infusion at zero, four, and eight weeks. Afterward, maintenance doses are given as an injection at week 12 and every 8 weeks after that.

If you have plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, you will receive your initial injections at zero and four weeks. After that, you will be given your subsequent doses every 12 weeks. If you have psoriatic arthritis, you may be given Skyrizi in conjunction with other non-biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).

Skyrizi is a biologic medicine that is made out of an interleukin-23 (IL-23) inhibitor. In patients who had psoriatic arthritis, Skyrizi was able to decrease their stiffness, swelling, and joint pain. About three out of four people who had plaque psoriasis were able to enjoy 90% clearer skin after taking Skyrizi injections for four months.

Soliris

Manufacturer website:

https://solirisgmg.com/

Condition:

Soliris is approved to treat neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG), atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). This medication can prevent certain proteins from becoming activated, which can help with several rare diseases.

Soliris impacts the way your immune system functions. Because of this, it can reduce your body’s ability to counteract infections. Since this increases the odds of developing a serious infection, you must get your meningococcal vaccines at least two weeks before you take your initial dose of Soliris.

While the infusion takes just 35 minutes to complete, you will need to remain at the infusion center for post-infusion monitoring. You will receive an infusion every week for the first five weeks. Afterward, you will receive an infusion every two weeks.

Soliris can sometimes cause major side effects. If you notice problems breathing, chest pain, or other symptoms, you should tell the nurse or infusion provider right away.

Solu-Medrol

If you suffer from mycosis fungoides or other dermatologic diseases, you may be prescribed Solu-Medrol. It is also given for gastrointestinal diseases, rheumatic disorders, endocrine disorders, neoplastic diseases, renal diseases, respiratory diseases, and hematologic disorders. Sometimes, it is prescribed for miscellaneous illnesses, like tuberculous meningitis and trichinosis.

When you are given a high dose of Solu-Medrol, it will take at least 30 minutes to administer the infusion. Then, you can receive a new dose every 4 to 6 hours for the next 48 hours. If you are receiving a high dose, you shouldn’t be given this infusion for more than 72 hours.

When you take Solu-Medrol for a longer period of time, your doctor will gradually taper off your dose. If you have multiple sclerosis (MS), you may be given a daily dose for a week followed by a dose every other day for a month.

Spevigo

Manufacturer website:

https://patient.boehringer-ingelheim.com/us/products/spevigo/

Condition:

  • Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP)

Spevigo is a prescription medication approved for treating generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP), a rare and severe form of psoriasis characterized by widespread pustules on the skin. Given as an intravenous infusion under medical supervision, Spevigo allows for close monitoring to ensure optimal outcomes. Before starting Spevigo, patients should discuss their health history with their healthcare provider, particularly any infections or recent health changes, to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Stelara IV & SQ

Manufacturer website:

https://www.stelarahcp.com/ulcerative-colitis/dosing

Condition:

With Stelara, you initially receive an intravenous (IV) induction dose if you have ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. Afterward, you will have a subcutaneous (SQ or subQ) maintenance dose every eight weeks. Your initial IV infusion will take at least an hour to complete.

The amount of medication you receive will depend on your body weight. Following your initial dose, you should receive six subcutaneous injection maintenance doses during the first year.

If you have plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, you will be given an IV dose at zero and four weeks. Afterward, your doses will happen every 12 weeks.
Stelara can change the way your immune system functions. Because of this, it can increase your chances of developing an infection. Latent infections can also be reactivated when you are on Stelara, so you should carefully discuss the risks and benefits of taking this treatment if you are currently suffering from an infection.

Tepezza

Manufacturer website:

https://www.tepezza.com/

Condition:

Tepezza can help you reduce double vision. It provides relief for multiple symptoms of thyroid eye disease. Other than helping with eye bulging, it can also decrease redness, swelling, and pain.

This intravenous (IV) medicine is generally given in a hospital, clinic, or infusion center. Normally, patients are given a total of eight infusions. The first two infusions will take about 90 minutes to complete.

After your first two infusions, the remaining infusions will take 60 minutes to complete. Because you will receive your infusions three weeks apart, it will take around five months to complete the entire course of treatment. Your doctor will determine how much Tepezza you receive based on your weight.

After each infusion you will be monitored for a period of time ranging from 30 to 60 minutes.

While you have already had eye exams to diagnose thyroid eye disease, your doctor will conduct another eye exam before you start treatment to see how this disease is affecting your eyes. Because Tepezza can increase your blood sugar, you may also need to have your blood sugar tested.

Tysabri (TOUCH center certified)

Manufacturer website:

https://www.tysabri.com/

Condition:

Tysabri was created to treat relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS). In clinical studies, this drug decreased the number of relapses and slowed disability progression. It also decreased the number of new brain lesions.

When you take Tysabri, you will be enrolled in the TOUCH Prescribing Program. This allows your entire healthcare team to track your treatment and your risk of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML).

You will be given this treatment over the course of an hour. Then, you will receive subsequent doses every four weeks. After your first 12 treatments, you will be observed for an hour afterward to see if you are exhibiting any signs of a hypersensitivity reaction. Once you have received 12 infusions and have had no reactions, you will not need monitoring.

While Tysabri is typically used for MS patients, it can also be used if you have Crohn’s disease. With Crohn’s disease, Tysabri can induce remission and help you maintain your remission.

Ultomiris

Manufacturer website:

https://ultomiris.com/

Condition:

  • Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS)
  • Myasthenia Gravis (gMG)
  • Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD)
  • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH)

Ultomiris is a prescription medication approved to treat a range of rare, chronic conditions, including Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH), atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS), generalized Myasthenia Gravis (gMG), and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD). By targeting specific immune pathways, Ultomiris helps manage the symptoms associated with these disorders, reducing complications and improving quality of life for patients.

For those with PNH, Ultomiris works to reduce red blood cell destruction, thereby decreasing anemia, fatigue, and the need for blood transfusions. In cases of aHUS, the medication helps regulate the immune system to prevent blood vessel damage and improve kidney function. For patients with gMG and NMOSD, Ultomiris reduces immune attacks on nerves and muscles, aiming to decrease muscle weakness and episodes of paralysis.

Administered as an infusion, Ultomiris is typically given less frequently than other treatments, which can be beneficial for those managing chronic symptoms. Patients should consult their healthcare provider regarding their full medical history, including any recent infections, to ensure Ultomiris is safe and effective as part of their treatment plan.

Uplizna

Manufacturer website:

https://www.uplizna.com/

Condition:

  • Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD)

If you suffer from neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), Uplizna is designed to help. Autoimmune diseases can cause inflammation in your central nervous system. Because of this, Uplizna relies on B cells for treating your disease.

B cells normally make antibodies to protect you from illnesses. With NMOSD, these B cells end up making autoantibodies to attack your central nervous system instead of targeting viruses like they are supposed to. By destroying B cells at all parts of their life cycle, Uplizna can prevent NMOSD attacks from happening.

Uplizna is typically taken in two doses. These doses are initially spaced two weeks apart. Afterward, you can take a maintenance dose every six months. Your infusion will be approximately 90 minutes.

During the first 28 weeks of the Uplizna study, almost 90% of patients managed to be attack free. Plus, hospitalization rates were reduced by 78%. While major side effects can occasionally happen, the most common side effects experienced were joint pain and urinary tract infections.

Vimizim

Manufacturer website:

https://www.vimizim.com/

Condition:

  • Morquio A

Vimizim is the only enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) approved to treat Morquio A. As a kind of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), Morquio A is essentially a rare lysosomal storage disorder. This genetic disease can cause your body to make too little of a special enzyme.

Without this enzyme, glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) can build up in your body. This can lead to issues with your major organs, tissues, and bones. Because it can affect each individual differently, your symptoms may not be the same as someone else who suffers from Vimizim.

Vimizim can help by replacing the enzymes your body lacks. By doing this, it can restore some of your cell function. Over time, it can improve your lung function and overall endurance.

Vimizim is typically taken as a weekly treatment. In general, you can expect your infusions to take around six hours to complete, this includes pre-medications. During the infusion, you will be monitored for infusion reactions and side effects.

Vyepti

Manufacturer website:

https://www.vyepti.com/

Condition:

From your very first treatment, Vyepti can begin reducing the number of migraines you experience each month. If you suffer from at least four migraine days a month, Vyepti may be able to help. You can talk to your healthcare provider about whether this medication is the right choice for you.

Veyepti works by affecting calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), which is a kind of protein. Scientists believe this protein may play a role in causing migraines. Because Vyepti can bind to CGRP, this protein is unable to activate receptors in your mind and cause migraines.

Each infusion lasts just 30 minutes. You will get four infusions a year. Following infusions, patients had an average of eight fewer migraines each month.

Vyepti causes very few side effects. In research studies, the most common side effects were stuffy nose, scratchy throats, and allergic reactions. Because this medication may not be safe from pregnant people, it is important to tell your doctor if you are currently pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant.

Vyvgart

Vyvgart is designed to treat people who are struggling with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG). It uses a fragment of an immunoglobulin G IgG antibody to help people who have anti-AChR antibody positive gMG. In clinical trials, patients were able to improve their daily abilities and decrease their muscle weakness.

Once you start taking Vyvgart, it can decrease your IgG antibodies. This can prevent gMG symptoms from happening.

In clinical studies, many side effects were only slightly more common in the treatment group than in the control group. Taking Vyvgart can slightly increase the chances of respiratory tract infections, headaches, tingling sensations, muscle pain, and urinary tract infections.

Initially, your doctor will give you a one-hour infusion each week for four weeks. After the treatment cycle is over, your doctor will determine how long you can take a break until you go through another treatment cycle. On average, patients were able to go 72 days between treatment cycles.

Zemaira

If you have been diagnosed with an alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (A1AT), Zemaira may be able to help you manage your disease. Unlike other lung conditions, A1AT is a hereditary condition. This means it is passed from your parents to you through your genes.

Known as genetic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), A1AT causes an estimated 3% of COPD cases. Like traditional COPD, it causes coughing, trouble breathing, and wheezing. Unlike other COPD cases, A1AT happens because your body doesn’t create enough A1AT to prevent inflammation from damaging your lungs.

Without proper treatment, this deficiency can end up causing emphysema and progressive lung damage. Because it can raise your level of alpha1-proteinase inhibitor, Zemaira can help to decrease your deficiency.

Most people can receive a Zemaira infusion in just 15 minutes. Your dosage can change based on your weight, so your infusion time can also vary. Afterward, you can start a weekly infusion schedule.

Injection Treatments

Amvuttra

Amvuttra was created for people who suffer from hereditary ATTR (hATTR) amyloidosis. By taking this medication, patients can achieve a significant improvement in nerve function and their overall quality of life. In addition, this medication only has to be taken once every three months.

hATTR amyloidosis is a progressive condition that happens because of a mutation in the transthyretin (TTR) gene. This rare disorder can negatively impact the nerves, heart, and digestive system. In addition, some people may suffer from blurred vision, kidney dysfunction, and glaucoma.

Amvuttra can help by reducing the amount of TTR protein your liver makes. As a result, your amyloid deposits are decreased. This can lead to fewer polyneuropathy symptoms.

Every three months, you will receive Amvuttra as a subcutaneous injection. It can be given in your thighs, upper arm, or abdomen. Although it can occasionally reduce your vitamin A levels, no premedications or lab work are generally required before taking Amvuttra.

Apretude

Manufacturer website:

https://apretude.com/

Condition:

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Prevention

You can take Apretude to prevent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Currently, Apretude is the only long-acting PrEP you can inject for decreasing your chances of getting HIV. Instead of having to take a pill each day, you can get an injection every other month.

You will start by getting two injections a month apart. Afterward, you can take as few as six doses of Apretude each year. Because the medicine is slowly released into your body over time, your body is able to keep a stable level of medication between your injections.

You should never take this medication if you are already infected with HIV. Sometimes, HIV tests don’t pick up a recent infection. If you are experiencing symptoms of HIV, it is important to get tested again.

Before you start taking Apretude, you should talk to your doctor about whether this medication is right for you. Your doctor will also give you a new HIV test before each appointment to see if you are still HIV negative. If you have any side effects from taking the medication, you should discuss them with your healthcare provider.

Cabenuva

Manufacturer website:

https://www.cabenuva.com/

Condition:

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Prevention

Cabenuva is a long-acting treatment for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Typically, patients are given two injections one month apart for the first two months. Afterward, you will receive subsequent injections every one or two months.

Cabenuva is an injectable treatment you can use to reach undetectable levels of HIV. By taking these regular injections, you may be able to stop taking daily pills.

You can work with your doctor to choose a target date for getting your injection each month. While it is best to get your injection on your target date, the medication can still work as long as you get your injection seven days before or seven days after the right date.

Each injection is made out of rilpivirine and cabotegravir. Together, these two medications can fight off your HIV infection. The medications are slowly released into your body over time, which allows you to maintain the same level of medicine between your injections.

Cimzia

Manufacturer website:

https://www.cimzia.com/

Condition:

Cimzia is a biologic treatment for plaque psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis. It can help prevent joint damage and improve your overall quality of life. In RA patients, Cimzia was able to improve joint pain in 6 out of 10 patients in just 24 weeks or less.

This injectable treatment is made out of anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF). TNF is normally used to tell your immune system to fight off infections. When you have excessive TNF, it can cause your immune system to attack your healthy tissues.

Cimzia can help by blocking these extra signals. Once your body stops attacking healthy tissue, you will experience less inflammation.

After your initial dose, you will end up getting another injection at two and four weeks. Following this, the dosage depends on your reaction and what condition you are suffering from. The amount of medication in your injection may also vary because of your body weight.

Crysvita

Manufacturer website:

https://www.crysvita.com/

Condition:

At the moment, Crysvita is the only medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration for people who have X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH). In adults and children over the age of 6 months, Crysvita can treat the underlying cause of this progressive disease.

When someone has XLH, their body produces an excessive amount of a protein known as fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23). Because they have too much FGF23, their body loses phosphorus. In addition to other symptoms, this can impact the individual’s bone health.

Crysvita can help because it is made out of an antibody that targets the underlying cause of XLH. It can help to boost phosphorus levels in the blood, heal rickets, and improve a child’s growth. In adults, this medication is clinically proven to heal fractures, boost phosphorus levels, heal osteomalacia, and decrease joint stiffness.

Children will receive a dose of Crysvita every two weeks. For adults, this medication is given every four weeks.

Elelyso

Manufacturer website:

https://elelyso.com/

Condition:

  • Gaucher Disease

If you suffer from Type 1 Gaucher disease, Elelyso may be able to help. This medication is approved for patients who are 4 years old or older. As an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), it helps to replace enzymes someone’s body isn’t making enough of.

Gaucher disease is a rare, genetic condition that happens in about 1 out of 50,000 to 100,000 people. Among people who have Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, about 1 out of 600 people will have this disease. Gaucher disease affects your lysosomal storage, so your body doesn’t properly make an enzyme known as glucocerebrosidase.

Over the years, this disease can increase the size of your spleen or liver. Elelyso can help by entering Gaucher cells and breaking up the fatty substance inside. This can help to decrease the size of these cells.

You can take Elelyso every other week. After nine months of taking Gaucher, patients in clinical studies saw their spleens and livers decrease in size. The medication also helped to increase their platelets and hemoglobin levels.

Evenity

Manufacturer website:

https://www.evenity.com/

Condition:

  • Osteoporosis

Many women suffer from osteoporosis after menopause. Unfortunately, this condition can lead to fractures if you don’t take care of it. Through Evenity, you can reduce your risk of fractures and help your body build new bones.

Evenity is unique because it doesn’t just slow down the progression of osteoporosis and bone loss. Over the course of 12 months, it can help your body build new bones.

This medication works in two essential ways. First, it helps to spur your body’s natural ability to create bones. Additionally, it can slow down the progression of your bone loss.

Unlike some medications, you don’t have to take Evenity on a daily basis. Instead, the dose is given via two shots during the same monthly visit. You only have to take Evenity for a single year for it to take effect.

For the medication to work effectively, you also need to take vitamin D and calcium. If you can’t take these supplements consistently, you should talk to your doctor about whether this medication is right for you.

Fasenra

Manufacturer website:

https://www.fasenra.com/

Condition:

Fasenra is intended for people who have eosinophilic asthma. You might have eosinophilic asthma if you often need to use a rescue inhaler to control your asthma or frequently end up in the emergency room because of asthma attacks. Likewise, needing oral steroids or waking up at night because of asthma symptoms could be an indication of eosinophilic asthma.

Eosinophils are a kind of white blood cell in your immune system. If you have eosinophilic asthma, you have too many eosinophils. This causes excessive inflammation and increased asthma symptoms.

A simple blood test can show if you have elevated levels of eosinophils. If you are a candidate for Fasenra, you can begin taking one injection of this drug every eight weeks. You shouldn’t use this drug if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Fasenra or benralizumab.

While taking Fasenra, you may experience an allergic reaction or other side effects. If you experience any symptoms while taking this medication, you should talk to your doctor about them right away.

Givlaari

Manufacturer website:

https://www.givlaari.com/

Condition:

  • Acute Hepatic Porphyria (AHP)

Givlaari is prescribed as a medication for acute hepatic porphyria (AHP). This disease causes problems with heme production in the liver because of a genetic mutation. Because an enzyme known as aminolevulinic acid synthase 1 (ALAS1) is activated, it can cause toxic substances to build up and cause other symptoms.

Givlaari can treat AHP by reducing the amount of ALAS1 in your liver. This prevents toxic substances from developing and causing the symptoms of AHP.

If your doctor decides this is the right medication for you, you will be given Givlaari once each month. It is typically given as a subcutaneous injection underneath your skin. If you accidentally miss an injection, you should take it as soon as possible.

If you experience any side effects while taking this drug, you should report them to your doctor right away. Other than allergic reactions, the most common side effects were nausea, injection site reactions, rashes, changes in kidney function, fatigue, and changes in liver function.

Ilaris

Manufacturer website:

https://www.ilaris.com/

Condition:

  • Adult-Onset Still's Disease (AOSD)
  • Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndromes (FCAS & MWS)
  • Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF)
  • Hyperimmunoglobulin D Syndrome/Mevalonate Kinase Deficiency (HIDS/MKD)
  • Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
  • Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Associated Periodic Syndrome (TRAPS)

Adults and children over the age of 4 can use this medication for familial cold auto-inflammatory syndrome (FCAS) and Muckle-Wells syndrome (MWS). For FCAS and MWS, you will receive a subcutaneous injection every eight weeks.

Adult and pediatric patients who have tumor necrosis factor receptor associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS), hyperimmunoglobulin D syndrome (HIDS), mevalonate kinase
deficiency (MKD), familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD), and
systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) can get this injection every four weeks. If you don’t achieve a clinical response from this dosage schedule, your doctor may increase the size of your dose. The size of your dose can also vary according to your weight.

Side effects, like a runny nose, can happen in up to 10% of patients. Other than a runny nose, some of the most common side effects were bronchitis, influenza, diarrhea, headache, nausea, increased weight, vertigo, musculoskeletal pain, gastroenteritis, and pharyngitis.

Ilumya

Manufacturer website:

https://www.ilumya.com/

Condition:

If you have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, you may be able to benefit from taking Ilumya. This medication is given as an injection to help balance your immune system. It can help to decrease the plaques and redness you typically see on your skin.

As a biologic medication, Ilumya is created from natural sources. It is designed to block the IL-23 molecule, which can help improve the symptoms of plaque psoriasis. Unlike some medications, Ilumya targets the right part of the immune system instead of affecting the entire immune system.

You will initially receive two starter doses about four weeks apart. Afterward, you will be given your additional doses every 12 weeks. This works out to about four doses per year after your starter doses.

To help reduce flares, you should also decrease your alcohol intake. A cold compress can also help if you have a flare that causes itching or burning sensations.

In clinical studies, people were able to lower their cholesterol by 50% after taking Leqvio and a statin. More importantly, they were able to keep their cholesterol down during the entire dosing interval.

By taking this medication, you can help your body naturally remove bad cholesterol. Initially, you will take one dose followed by a second starter dose three months later. Afterward, your maintenance doses will occur every six months.

Some people have a reaction to their injections. In clinical studies, the most common side effects of this medication were injection site reactions, urinary tract infections, chest colds, leg pain, arm pain, joint pain, diarrhea, and shortness of breath.

Nucala

Manufacturer website:

https://www.nucala.com/

Condition:

If you suffer from eosinophilic asthma, you can be given Nucala injections as an add-on medication. This maintenance treatment is designed to be a part of your ongoing treatment plan, so it isn’t intended for acute asthma attacks.

You may have severe asthma if you are frequently using your rescue inhaler, wheezing, or coughing. If you are taking asthma medications and still wake up at night with difficulty breathing, you may need extra help. You can talk to your doctor to see if a diagnosis of eosinophilic asthma is accurate for you.

Eosinophils are white blood cells. When you have too many eosinophils, it can cause extra lung inflammation and more asthma attacks. You can easily see if you have eosinophilic asthma by getting a blood test to check your eosinophil levels.

If you have severe asthma, you will typically receive an injection of Nucala every four weeks. For other conditions, the dosage schedule can vary.

Prolia

Prolia is typically given once every six months. If you miss your expected dose, you should take it as soon as possible afterward. Afterward, you should schedule your next dose for six months later.

Revcovi

Manufacturer website:

https://revcovi.com/

Condition:

  • Adenosine Deaminase Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (ADA-SCID)

Revcovi is the only drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating adenosine deaminase severe combined immune deficiency (ADA-SCID). Designed for adult and pediatric patients, this drug is an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). As an ERT, it can replace the ADA enzyme in people who have ADA-SCID.

ADA-SCID happens because someone is born with a deficiency in ADA. Normally, ADA helps your body get rid of leftover material after your cells divide. Because ADA doesn’t work right in people with ADA-SCID, the leftover material begins to build up.

Before long, this leads to the creation of toxic deoxyadenosine nucleotide (dAXP). This toxic material can remove important immune cells, which means your body can’t fight off infections properly. Revcovi is able to help by replacing ADA, so your body can effectively remove leftover materials from cell division.

You will be given injections of Revcovi twice each week. Your doctor will periodically take blood tests to see if the medication is working for you.

Stelara (Injection)

https://www.stelarainfo.com/

Condition:

Stelara can be given to adults who have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. It can also treat children over the age of six and adults who have psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis.

Stelara works by impacting the way your immune system functions. In clinical trials, it was found to help patients who had problems with previous medications. The majority of patients were able to achieve rapid relief from Crohn’s disease after just one dose of Stelara.

For ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, the first dose of Stelara is an infusion. Eight weeks later, you will be given an injection of Stelara. Afterward, you will receive an injection every eight weeks.

With adult psoriasis patients, the initial doses are at zero weeks and four weeks. Following this, the doses will occur every 12 weeks. Pediatric patients have the same dosage schedule as adults, but the dose size is based on their weight.

Tezspire

Manufacturer website:

https://www.tezspire.com/

Condition:

Tezspire is designed to be an add-on medication for people who have severe asthma, so it isn’t intended to be a rescue medication. By taking Tezspire, you may be able to experience fewer asthma attacks, better lung function, and improved breathing. It can also help you get your asthma symptoms under control.

An estimated 1.3 million people suffer from uncontrolled severe asthma. If you have to use your quick-relief inhaler at least twice a week or need to refill it two or more times a year, you may have severe asthma. In addition, your asthma may be severe if it wakes you up during the night at least twice per month.

When your body interacts with an asthma trigger, your lungs start a chain reaction. Part of this chain reaction is an inflammatory response. Tezspire functions by blocking this chain reaction from causing inflammation and asthma attacks.

Tezspire is intended for adults and children over the age of 12. This medication is given in a healthcare setting once every four weeks. If you end up missing a scheduled injection on accident, you should call your healthcare provider to see when your next dose should be rescheduled.

Thyrogen

Manufacturer website:

https://www.thyrogen.com/patients

Condition:

Thryogen consists of recombinant human thyroid stimulating hormone (rhTSH). This means you can take this with your normal medication to prevent the symptoms of hypothyroidism when you need a diagnostic test or a similar procedure. It is created to be identical to natural human thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

Basically, Thyrogen uses this protein to increase the levels of TSH in your body. This can help doctors monitor your body for the recurrence of thyroid cancer. It can also help you prepare for RAI ablation.

Patients are typically given this medication as an injection into their buttocks. The injection is given for two days in a row by a healthcare provider. Unlike other medications, you don’t have to risk going into thyroid hormone withdrawal (THW) by stopping your medications.

Whenever you need to have RAI ablation and diagnostic testing done, you can schedule Thryogen injections right away. You should always discuss potential side effects and contraindications with your doctor before taking new medications.

Xolair

Manufacturer website:

https://www.xolair.com/

Condition:

Xolair can treat allergic asthma in adults and children who are over the age of 6. It can also treat chronic hives in patients over the age of 12. Additionally, adults who have nasal polyps can use Xolair for symptom relief.

If you suffer from asthma, you will most likely receive your injection every two or four weeks. For nasal polyps, Xolair is also prescribed every two to four weeks. Patients who have chronic hives with an unknown cause will receive their injection every four weeks.

At the moment, Xolair is the only drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat allergic asthma. Once patients start taking Xolair, they can enjoy significantly decreased asthma attacks. To date, more than 305,000 patients have used this medication for allergic asthma.

This medication works by focusing on immunoglobulin E (IgE). Because IgE is the underlying reason why people suffer from allergic asthma, this can significantly improve symptoms. Xolair can capture IgE in your body, so it can’t lead to an asthma attack.
