CONDITION AND TREATMENT OVERVIEW
Osteoporosis
Around the world, osteoporosis is a common condition to experience with aging. In the United States, 10 million adults suffer from the condition with another 44 million affected by low bone density. Receiving an osteoporosis diagnosis may leave you with many questions. But perhaps the most urgent question is, “What can I do about it? Are there treatments that can restore bone density and avoid painful fractures?”
With injection therapy, patients who have not been able to see results from oral medications may be able to find relief and restore critical bone density.

What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis causes individuals to lose bone density. Rather than the bone absorbing and replacing bone tissue – resulting in solid, healthy bones – those with osteoporosis have decreasing bone mass. This leaves the bones weak and brittle.
As a result of declining bone density, patients with osteoporosis may experience frequent fractures. The risk for osteoporosis-related fractures increases with age. In fact, 20% of men and 33% of women over age 50 experience osteoporotic fractures.
In addition to age, other factors that contribute to low bone density include:
- Less than ideal nutrition (such as vitamin deficiencies)
- Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption
- A lack of exercise and regular physical activity
Because osteoporosis makes restoring bone density difficult, fractures have worse, longer-lasting consequences for those with this condition. Recovery takes longer, and patients often end up in cycles where they receive additional fractures while the initial fracture recovers.
Hip and spine fractures are especially dangerous. They also lead to severe, ongoing pain and deformities that make simple movements and independence difficult.
While there is no permanent cure for osteoporosis, regular infusion therapy can treat symptoms and encourage strong bone density.
